Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Hello all!
As usual, my round is gonna be slightly... Different. I will provide the pronunciation, rather than the orthography, of a phrase; to inhibit googling.
Enjoy:
[juˈʋaɾlanan taʃ jo̞ˈsʊn tʊtˈmaz]

Дайте Нефть Из Баку "Yuvarlanan taşyosun tutmaz." Or maybe: "yuvarlanan taş yosun tutmaz", since that "ş" followed by a "y" feels so wrong.
Maria Weidner Seems easy. Let's see: A rolling stone is not stopped by moss. (my english is awfull, sorry). And i didn't google it! But maybe it is wrong..
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström I'm afraid that's not exactly correct! :p Close, but no cigar (the Sprogspelet motto).
Maria Weidner A rolling stone doesn't become moss grown! (is this right english? I doubt it somehow...)
Maria Weidner probably... I never had to talk about stones and moss in english :), so yes... gathers no moss! Thank you! (Every day one learns a little more!)
Arief Wibowo If yuvarlanan is rolling beyond doubt, then it's
Rolling stone holds no moss (because they hold guitars and sing rock n roll)
Rolling stone holds no moss (because they hold guitars and sing rock n roll)
Maria Weidner Arief, I am quite sure is"rolling stone gathers no moss" yuvarlanmak is to roll, yuvarlanan is rolling
Christian James Meredith Apparently ansetzen translates to "start" or "implement" or "attack" but that sounds stilted...
Gather sounds best
Gather sounds best
Maria Weidner German verbs may have many meanings! I can as well a "suppe ansetzen" (put bones and meat in boiling water), ansetzen zu means start doing something... German is funny!
Arief Wibowo I have no idea about that stress in IPA
In fact, in my copy of it, the stress is on the left of ʋ, Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström's on top of ʋ.

Arief Wibowo Strange though, I can find tutmak under hold/to grasp in Wiktionary
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hold#Translations
But gathers → toplamak, derlemek, almak, etc

Arief Wibowo Our dear Wiktionary gives:
to implement
to attack
to start
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ansetzen
But no worries, learning German is still in my todo list

Maria Weidner So I Turkish they say hold, in German ansetzen and in English gather. Translations are never word by word. I German, both gather and hold would sound incredibly stupid. One has to transmit the meaning.
Arief Wibowo Maria Weidner, I understand, I am just playing with words while waiting for The Victor to come back
Maria Weidner Ansetzen doesn't mean attack either, no idea in what kind of dictionary James did find it!
Arief Wibowo I just noticed the reference:
Robert Michael and Karin Doerr, Nazi-Deutsch / Nazi German, Greenwood Press (2002), ISBN 0-313-32106-X, page 66.

Arief Wibowo Is this better?
to schedule [meeting, appointment]
to set
to assess
etc..

Christian James Meredith Hmm, it could mean attack by euphamism could it? Like "set upon" or "mobilise" etc?
Wait, what was this game again?
Wait, what was this game again?
Maria Weidner Waduh, aku kangen banget ngomong bhs indo nih... (sorry, I said I miss it so much to speak Indonesian)
Maria Weidner Einen termin ansetzen - to schedule, this is right. The meaning of ansetzen always depends on the following noun
Arief Wibowo The minigame is now: determine what's ansetzen to kill some time while waiting for Victor, and speak a bit of Indonesian
Дайте Нефть Из Баку Bilmemek ayıp değil, sormamak ayıp!
(Sorry, I wanted to chime but that's about all I know of Turkish.)
(Sorry, I wanted to chime but that's about all I know of Turkish.)
Дайте Нефть Из Баку And here's what my small German dictionary has to say about "ansetzen":
Ansetzen (2) tv (an Mund etc) to apply; (anfügen) to attack, to attach; (Knospen, Frucht) to develop, to form; (Rost) to make, to produce; (vorbereiten: Bowle) to prepare; (festlegen: Termin) to set, to establish; (: Kosten) to determine, to calculate // vi (beginnen) to begin; (Haar etc) to trim; Fett ansetzen: to get fat, to put on a belly.
Basically anything you can think of. Reminds me of Russian verbs.

Arief Wibowo Hmm.. Example usage of "ansetzen":
We are waiting for Victor to ansetzen/assess this round and ansetzen/determine the winner, so we can ansetzen/begin a new round. Arief will then ansetzen/insert it to Språkspelet website.
(Germans are going to ansetzen/attack me for this)

Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström It means "ansätta", done. Aaaand Maria Weidner ist die glückliche Gewinnerin!
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström As it happens, I sleep at night. It might get difficult to reach me then.
Christian James Meredith In my highly subjective reality you sleep all day and stay up all night, you uncivilised northern barbarian.
Arief Wibowo Without trying to deny Maria Weidner from winning (I know she has tried her best for the 4th round now), I guess we should let Brandon James Heinrich win this round?
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Well, I suppose, lets say this: If Brandon isn't around in an hour, Maria gets the win?
Maria Weidner To be honest, I only translated it into German and something I thought it might be English. Brandon was the first who wrote the correct English sentence! :p
Arief Wibowo But if we count number of effort, Maria Weidner should win. Your decision, Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström As long as someone understands German, it's OK! ^^ Nah, go ahead you. Effort accounts for a lot in this game.
Maria Weidner Is Brandon in the US? Then it might be very early there and it'll take a few more hours until he'll show up
Maria Weidner In this game I am the one translating the words. And the others make a real sentence out of it, as I said before, teamwork!
Maria Weidner Ok! At first I thought I'll make a sentence with as much "ansetzen" as possible but then it would be too easy for Victor. So I'll come up with something more difficult. Hold on!
Billy James Brightraven Suiones nunquam tacebunt! Domus tuas cum materiis ex IKEA construemus et posthac ne potueris in domo sine rebus IKEAlibus vivere!
Billy James Brightraven "Swedes never shall they quiet! Thy houses with materials from IKEA we shall build and after this thou shalt not be able to live in house without things from IKEA!"
"Every person part of the kingdom of the Swedes is! Everyone shall come along![1]"
1. It's a joke-y reference to a failed election slogan by the social democrats here, they had "Alla ska med!" (lit. everyone shall with!) which was kinda cheesy :p
