Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Yay! I know it's been little over 2 weeks since my last round, but it feels like months!

Alan the cat has not yet returned from his unforeseen séjour in Mauritania, so this round will be missing his characteristic evil ^__^. It's not French, but it's a language with which French can help immeasurably to decode! :)

I fait nuit. Arsène vot sin comarate Nestor, à quat' pattes, in route à cacher qué qu' cose, à terre, in d'sous d'in limpadaire.
- Qu'é t'as perdu Nestor ?
- Ben, les clefs d'em' bagnole !
- Et té sûr ed les avoir perdues ichi ?
- Pas du tout ! mais ché ichi qu'in vot pus clair !

I'll have to retire to bed very soon, but I'll be back tomorrow - with additional resources if necessary.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Since I can understand French, I feel like this is cheating; I got most of this at first glance. Bonne chance, sprogspelare!
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Is it Walloon? Jèrriais? Guernésiais? Or could it be Gallo?
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Fair play, Wrik! I do the same - in fact, unfortunately, the one opportunity that I had to intervene in the last few weeks that didn't feel like a dishonourable steal was a round in which I knew the language too well to compete.

None of the above, but Walloon and Gallo place it very close! :D
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline At first glance, I though "uh-oh", but at second glance, I thought "ah-ha" to most words. I should perhaps sit this out... :)

I don't know which language it is exactly, so I am going to guess it's Occitan....
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee It can't be Occitan. Occitan is a lot more like Catalan.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres I'm afraid that Occitan's further away - it's not an "oc" language but a "oïl" language. Its Sprachraum is very close to that of Gallo :)
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Picard? Norman?
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Bingo. It's Picard!

Sarah Karoline (I've just been trying to find a dictionary.. :) )
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter I'm not sure if I'd be allowed to play.
Although I don't speak Picard at all, but seems like I somehow understand what this convo is about :p
Billy James Brightraven
Billy James Brightraven Night falls. Arsène sees his pal Nestor, on all fours, hiding? something beneath a lamp.
- Whatcha lost, Nestor?
- Well, the keys to my ride
- And are ya sure you lost 'em here?
- Not at all! But it's here that one sees best.
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Night falls. Arsène sees his pal Nestor, on all fours, looking for something beneath a lamp.
- Whatcha lost, Nestor?
- Well, the keys to my ride
- And are ya sure you lost 'em here?
- Not at all! But it's here that one sees best.

TOTES ORIGINAL YO.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter It has been night. Arsène sees his pal Nestor, on all fours, hiding under a portable lamp
- What have you lost, Nestor?
- Well, the keys to my ride
- And are you sure that you have lost them here?
- Not at all! But it's here that is clearer.
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith But in fairness, since min was a dirty, dirty ol' Stjälcuri attempt, I shall differentiate my attempt from Billy's to maintain some semblance of originality:

sɔː, ɪʔs laeʔ naeʔ, a̝n aːsɛn, ʔɪz laeʔ, sɪːn ɪz fɹɛn, nɛsta, lʊʔən fɒ ʔɪz θɪn daʔ ɪ lɒs, baːend da laeʔ.
- wɒʔ ju lɔs ma̝n?
- ʔɔː ma̝n, ju nɒʔ gɒna bliː dɪs, ma kɪːz gɒn lɒs.
- dɛn wae ju lʊʔən baːend da laeʔ ju sɪlɪ tɒs?
- kɒz ɪʔs laeʔ ɪːzɪa tə lʊʔ fɒ stɒf ɪn da laeʔ, jɛːa?
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Night falls. Arsène sees his pal Nestor, on all fours, looking for something, on the ground, beneath a lamp. (in under a lamp?)
- Whatcha lost, Nestor?
- Well, the keys to my ride
- And are ya sure you lost 'em here?
- Not at all! But it's here that one sees best.

(Vincensiu pointed out that "à terre" had been left out)
Billy James Brightraven
Billy James Brightraven Night falls. Arsène sees his pal Nestor, on all fours, on his way to hide something, on the ground, beneath a lamp.
- Whatcha lost, Nestor?
- Well, the keys to my ride
- And are ya sure you lost 'em here?
- Not at all! But it's here that one sees best.
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I'll offer a slightly embellished version for entertainment...

Night’s falling. Arsène sees his ‘stari drug’ Nestor on all fours enroute to hunting something on the ground below a street lamp.

What ya lost, Nestie?
Well, the keys to me wheels!
Ya sure you’ve lost em ‘ere?
Not a’ all, but I can see clearer ‘ere.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Quick log in at work... Christian's won it with his latest post! Cacher is a false friend with French, it is related to chercher and not cacher. In Picard, the Latin c palatalised less, and as a result, a>e after c is less prevalent too :)
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Christian: you won!!
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Congratulations Christian
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Mwahahaha! I have stolen victory! Much celebrate! For 40 days and 40 nights!
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter With a gigantic feast and 40 virgins dancing & worshiping you
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Nay, 39 virgins. Just to annoy the OCD peasantry.
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith BTW, my net is *terrible* at the moment, so I might take a while.
