Billy James Brightraven Ok, go
“Teräs hakkaa viha kasvaa
Koneistolle vallan antaa
Veri kiehuu ja kasvot saa
(...)
Kuka synnytti pahan?
Kuka keksi vallan ja rahan?
Kuka maailmaan auttaa?”
I told you Finno-Ugric was coming…

Billy James Brightraven And my Finno-Ugric ones so short [next time, I'm going with Sami languages…]
Arief Wibowo Hmm... Wait a minute, about the previous round, Дайте Нефть Из Баку said "Let's translate "WE ARE FREE!" in every language except Avestan!", and Christian James Meredith's round is really 'we are free'... Is that a coincidence?
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström, don't worry, I once had to cancel my Sanskrit round (http://sprogspelet.arwi.im/history/round/?id=24#1) because there wasn't anybody attempting it
Speaking of which, Christian, your request for enhancement has been implemented! We have round-based history.
And apparently, this is round 106, but if possible, don't reference the number in your rounds -- I am still vetting the data (2 days ago, this would have been round 103, but I found few untagged rounds in the middle)

Arief Wibowo maailmaan = mailman?
Plus Christian James Meredith's guesses:
[Teräs] (beat?) [viha] [kasvaa]
[Koneistolle] [vallan] [antaa]
[Veri] [kiehuu] [ja] [kasvot] get
(...)
Who [synnytti] [pahan]?
Who [keksi] [vallan] [ja] [rahan]?
Who mailman [auttaa]?

Arief Wibowo A ha, now that makes sense.
I am tempted to translate veri → beri (Indonesian) → give (because the end of that line is "get")

Arief Wibowo Brandon James Heinrich, we translate things to English. There wasn't any rule against hosting conlang challenges ("from"), but less documentation* might make it either super easy (because the dictionary contains all words needed) or super difficult (because no resource to help us at all).
Having that said, I once hosted a round of Alteran (one of Stargate languages), but that's only because it's very similar to Latin
* in comparison with natural languages

Christian James Meredith You can have a crack if you wish Brandon, it's just Finnish so get a dictionary and a good grammar you can decipher it quickly (I would.. but I won last time and I'm too busy playing LoL )
Christian James Meredith If no one gets to it by tonight (Central AU time, it's 8.40am atm) I'll plough through it with WILLPOWER.
/setting myself up for crushing defeat
/setting myself up for crushing defeat
Christian James Meredith OK I lied. I'm having a stab at things now.
“Teräs hakkaa viha kasvaa
Koneistolle vallan antaa
Veri kiehuu ja kasvot saa
(...)
Kuka synnytti pahan?
Kuka keksi vallan ja rahan?
Kuka maailmaan auttaa?”
Ruff draft Wun:
Steal beats, rage grows
To machinery, (he) gives power
Blood boils and gets face
(...)
Who (is born? passive?? I dunno how to conjugate passives) bad?
Who (invents? should this be keksii or does "kuka" command a different ending?) power and money?
Who in the world helps?

Christian James Meredith Yes, that seems better, in fact, I think it might be "Who births evil", since I accidentally forgot it's in the genitive/accusative.
Christian James Meredith Nah, it's world (Maa + ilma, look them up on wiktionary, it has a cool etymology) But that said... I'm *not* entirely sure my translation of that line is right - maailmaan is in the illative...
Perhaps the last line should be "Who brings help to the world" (implying help goes *into* the world, e.g. "who helps into the world").
Perhaps the last line should be "Who brings help to the world" (implying help goes *into* the world, e.g. "who helps into the world").
Arief Wibowo I have a feeling that this is a metal song, considering the amount of 'aaa' at the end of stuffs
Christian James Meredith Also, time for a half arsed gloss, to spread the glory of Finnish (behold the power of a working (e.g. "I can't actually speak this language") knowledge!):
steel beat/strike/hit.3S anger/rage/fury grow.3S
machine.COLL*.ALL power.GEN/ACC give.3S (*collective)
blood boil.3S and face.PL* gets (*this only has a plural, and the accusative/nominative are identical)
who birth*.PAST.3S bad.GEN/ACC (*this is actually some sort of causative verb based on synty it seems, which in Finnish appears to use the partitive as a base, see synnyttää)
who invent.PAST.3S* power.GEN/ACC and money.GEN/ACC (*keksi turns out to be a past form due to s and t merging, while keksii is the present equivalent)
who earth.air.ILL help.3S
steel beat/strike/hit.3S anger/rage/fury grow.3S
machine.COLL*.ALL power.GEN/ACC give.3S (*collective)
blood boil.3S and face.PL* gets (*this only has a plural, and the accusative/nominative are identical)
who birth*.PAST.3S bad.GEN/ACC (*this is actually some sort of causative verb based on synty it seems, which in Finnish appears to use the partitive as a base, see synnyttää)

who earth.air.ILL help.3S
Christian James Meredith Thus a fixed up version:
"Steel beets, rage grows
To machinery, all power is given
Blood boils, and gets a face (e.g. the people become angry, and this is recognised publically)
Who birthed evil?
Who invented power and money?
Who will bring aid to the world?"
Billy James Brightraven, this is awesome, but I bet it's from some dark metal song I'd probably never listen to hahahaha

Billy James Brightraven Christian, you win! Except it's beats, not beets.
No Swedes here
The song is pretty funky, but unfortunately very shout-y :\

Christian James Meredith Finnish is like lego... It's grammar is simply silly. That's probably why it's good for making fancy languages.
(inside joke, inside joke, don't read it the way it looks )

Christian James Meredith You may want to pay attention to any links I've recently posted on this group too
Kevin Long Why don't we just go with AINU language altogether. Pardon the pun, it's just such a REWORDING experience...I need to be PUN-ished...
