Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Ok then, round 204 :)

Mil harddach wyt na'r rhosyn gwyn,
Na'r rhosyn coch ar ael y bryn
Na'r alarch balch yn nofio'r llyn,
Fy maban bach.

Mwy swynol yw dy chwerthin mwyn
Na chan y fronfraith yn y llwyn,
Nan murmur mor o ben y twyn,
Fy maban bach.
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith This is clearly Elvish.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres :p
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Using a dictionary liberally:
Mil = animal/thousand (depends on "harddach"s meaning)
hardd = beautiful (thanks BBC!), -ach = -er
wyt = you are?
rhosyn = a rose
gwyn = white

na'r = not on (na+ar)? not the (na+yr)? Na also seems to be used in comparisons (thanks again BBC!)

coch =red
y = the
ael = (eye)brow, litter? (latter could be relevant if we're talking about animals)
bryn = hill

alarch = swan
balch = proud
yn = in? (used with verbs though it seems)
nofio = to swim
llyn = lake
fy = my
maban = baby
bach = something to do with small?
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith So for the first part:
A more beautiful creation (<animal) art thou than a white rose
(More beautiful) than a red rose on the brow of the hill
(More beautiful) than a proud swan swimming on a lake.
My little baby.

(Alternatively, the first part might be "A thousand times more beautiful"?)
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Good start, Christian! :)

Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres A more beautiful creation (<animal) art thou than a white rose
(More beautiful) than a red rose on the brow of the hill
(More beautiful) than a proud swan swimming on a lake.
My little baby.

(Alternatively, the first part might be "A thousand times more beautiful"?) < if you alter the first part to this, it's perfect :D
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith mwy swynol yw dy chwerthin mwyn = more charming is (cheers Cornish!) your mild laughter

Na chan y fronfraith yn y llwyn = Not a hundred of thrushes in a bush (how do you pronounce this? vronvrithe?)

Nan murmur mor o ben y twyn = not one murmur as from the head of the hill (hilltop?)

And we know the rest
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith So collated:
"A thousand times more beautiful art though than a white rose,
Than a red rose on the brow of the hill,
Than a proud swan swimming on a lake,
My little baby.

More charming is your mild laughter
Than a hundred of the thrushes in the bush,
Than a murmur as from the hilltop
My little baby.

(still lost on "nan" and "mor")
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Almost there :)

more charming is your {mild} laughter
[Not a hundred of] {thrushes} in [a] bush
[not one] murmur [as] from the hilltop

Fronfraith is indeed vron-vrith, /ˈvrɔnvraɪθ/

ach, an edit after I'd already started reviewing :p

More charming is your mild laughter
Than [a hundred of] the {thrushes} in the bush,
Than a (murmur) [as] from the hilltop

As for mor, you may have more ;) luck with the variant, môr ;)
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith "A thousand times more beautiful art thou* than a white rose,
Than a red rose on the brow of the hill,
Than a proud swan swimming on a lake,
My little baby.

More charming is your gentle laughter
Than a song of the thrush in the bush,
Than the murmuring sea from the hilltop
My little baby."

(*I wrote this as "though" before, argh!)
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres That seems like a good translation for me! Llongyfarchiadau :D!

Christian James Meredith 21st Språgspielið thread. 205th round. Rules etc linked to at bottom of post.

This is the continuation of the Språkspelet game that refuses to die. Originally started by Malin Elisabeth Nilsson, whom I'm not tagging here because she probably gets a bazillion notifications from these things, it's quickly evolved into a monster that no one in their right mind should think about getting involved with.

... However, all newcomers and existing players are welcome to come and play, or just watch! :D
