Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline This is round 249 of Sprogspelet/språkspilið/sprogspielið - the game with more spelling options than modern Norwegian.

The game was started by Malin last summer. More information can be found at the game's website http://sprogspelet.arwi.im/ created by Arief.

End of Babble!
---
The text I have chosen is from unit 4 of Colloquial Swedish. I have modified it a little. Enjoy, learn Swedish and poke fun at it at will, if yee wish.... :)

Helene Wiinholt
Helene Wiinholt I can tag Anna.
Helene Wiinholt
Helene Wiinholt I'm just gonna follow this round from afar, seeing as I'm a bit too familiar with it.
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship So... my Swedish is still rough (since I've been on-again-off-again learning it for awhile now), but this is what I have:

The Svensson Family visits Skåne, that was once a district off Denmark, and they speak a “particular/special” dialect there.

The Svensson family drives very (VERY) slowly along the coast, (and) the walk in (around?) the beautiful fishing village of Malmö, they see the Lund cathedral and visit the Ystad Liquor Store(?). Then they drive home to Älvdalen and sleep.
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline ED: You virtually have it! There are only a few words to alter/change.

Andy's correction method: [ ] wrong letter or word. { } almost correct.

The Svensson Family visits Skåne, that was once a [district] of[f] Denmark, and they speak a “particular/special” dialect there.

The Svensson family drives very very slowly along the coast, (and) [the] {walk} in/around [the-no article] beautiful fishing village of Malmö, they see the Lund cathedral and visit the Ystad Liquor Store (yes!). Then they drive home to Älvdalen and sleep.

---
Here are some tips:

* del: has a cognate in German.

* vandrar i: "walks" ok. What type of walking would one do in the countryside? Hint: H--- / R-----

* In the clause "vandrar i sköna fiskebyar" there's no definite article. The subject is carried over from the previous clause.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Stroll?
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Sort of :) Or the verb starting with H - - - (4 letters) or R - - - - -(6 letters).
This is perhaps pedantic... Hm, ..! :)
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Hike?
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship The Svensson Family visits Skåne, that was once a part of Denmark, and they speak a “particular/special” dialect there.

The Svensson family drives very very slowly along the coast, (and) they hike around beautiful fishing village of Malmö, they see the Lund cathedral and visit the Ystad Liquor Store. Then they drive home to Älvdalen and sleep.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee And the other one's "ramble," I think.
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship I still don't like not having an article for "beautiful fishing village" I feel like it needs an article in English, definite or indefinite. Also for the "vandrar" could I treat it as a participle and be like "hiking around..." even though it's not actually a participle here?
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Wrik "ramble" or "hike" yes.

Ed Sorry, I omitted a bracket! It should be village[ ]. The form of "village" isn't singular.. "hiking around" is fine by me!

The Svensson Family visits Skåne, that was once a part of Denmark, and they speak a “particular/special” dialect there.

The Svensson family drives very very slowly along the coast, (and) they hike around beautiful fishing village[ ] of/in Malmö, they see the Lund cathedral and visit the Ystad Liquor Store. Then they drive home to Älvdalen and sleep.

The rest is now perfect.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee I'd stjälcuri, but Ed hosts such interesting rounds.
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship Oh I totally missed on it being villages! I wasn't paying close enough attention! Sorry
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline You both do, Wrik :)

Ed Nema problema! I wasn't paying enough attention either! haha
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship Wrik if you want to go ahead and host the next round. I have no problem hosting it, but I wouldn't be able to put anything up until about 3pm my time (so... about 4 hours from now)...
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee I have to go to class in a few minutes anyways. It's up to you; besides, you did all the work.
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship Ok... I'll host the next round (and don't worry it won't be as hard as the last). I'll put it up later today when I'm back from teaching :)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline So, do I declare Ed as the winner? :)
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship When I say as hard as the last, I mean as hard as my last round that I hosted lol
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Ed, you still have to post a full translation for tagging purposes.
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Musings: can we deduce from the speed at which this last round was solved that Swedish is easy? [Our resident Swedish speakers seethe...] :P
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship ok...

The Svensson family visits Skåne, that was once a part of Denmark, and they speak a "particular" dialect there.

The Svensson family drives very, very slowly along the coast, (and) they hike around beautiful fishing villages of Malmö, they see the Lund cathedral, and visit the Ystad Liquor Store. Then they drive home to Älvdalen and sleep.

And yes, I declare Swedish is easy (at least in grammar and whatnot)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Musings: can we deduce from the speed at which this last round was solved that Swedish is easy? [Our resident Swedish speakers fly into a Lynn Loki-like rage... :P ]
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Thus I declare Ed the winner of round 249!
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship What? I win a house? (I Sverige?)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline You win the entire region of Skåne! This village will be renamed Edvik and the region Blankenskap! Enjoy :D
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline ...perhaps "Blankenskep"
Helene Wiinholt
Helene Wiinholt I've got a view of Skåne from my window. Ed, you'll by my new neighbour.
Anna Robbins
Anna Robbins Well, that was a quick round :P Congratulations, Ed :)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Ed Will the 'most complex text in the world' soon be ready? :)
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship sorry for dropping the ball there... I've been traveling all weekend
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Ah, OK, as you're back, forget the above - post deleted! Welcome back! The round's yours :D
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship oh ok... I'm still traveling (sitting in the airport now)... But I'll post a text (hopefully not too hard) and check in when I can (might have wifi on the plane)...
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline We're looking forward to starting the new round :) *Just a little pressure* :D haha
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Ed Blankenship Would you like me to co-host your current round?
I can help you monitoring the round when you are busy and unavailable.

As the game has been frozen for a week, I guess it would be a good idea to start a round soon.
As we have been loosing many players recently, let's do something quite simple to invite more new player, retain current players and reattract players that have left.
Ed Blankenship
Ed Blankenship I've already chosen a text... in the process of typing it up now... But it shouldn't be too too hard... it's from the 2nd lesson of a textbook for this language.
