Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström My aunt grants the following: Nimeni nu știe mai bine unde-l strânge cizma decât cel ce o poartǎ.
Christos Gialias
Christos Gialias :/ aw i expected one in swedish
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström God no! Billy's here! :S
Billy James Brightraven
Billy James Brightraven Zu spät. (I kid, Romanian is the Romance language I suck at most [after all the Swisslangs] )
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström I presumed that! I didn't want it to be easy... :P Unfortunately, I couldn't possible do Lombard. :/
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter nobody knows better where.... the door
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Im on my break at work. and read the post from Victor earlier. how embarassing it was that I couldnt relate between Bacchus/ Dionysius to wine.... my name is Denis :(
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Nobody knows very well where... (verb) cizma than the door...
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Not really, but you are getting there!
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter I really got no idea what cizma is... i kbow strânge is a verb. but I forgot what it is...
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter wow... I finished my shift and it still havent been resolved. well wait till I got home and peek at my dictionary
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Now that I am arrived at home and ready to go to bed, let me try it again:
Nobody knows better where to (strânge) the (cizma) than the door....
still couldn't figure out strange and cizma... completely no clue for cizma, and strânge is even more annoying coz I heard that before, I just can't remember...
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter even the word strange in Romanian is straini... :S
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter or could strânge be another form of straini?
Nobody knows better where to strange (alienating) the cizma (keys, guest, knob, window??) than the door....
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Cristian Mocanu you might be interested in joining this game
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Assuming Vincensiu Denis is correct about the door, let me guess:
Nobody knows better how to estrange the stranger than the door
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo (I am officially addicted to this game, I have just created an application shortcut to this particular post)
Maleen Schlüter
Maleen Schlüter cel ce o poartǎ looks to me like "celui qui le (?) porte" - the one who carries it...?
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström No, but stick with the porte-thought. That's relevant, and very close to the answer.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter hmmm... so far:
Nobody knows better where to (strange) (cizma) than the one who carries it???

My guess
Billy James Brightraven
Billy James Brightraven So going off what's been figured out so far
Nimeni nu știe mai bine unde-l strânge cizma decât cel ce o poartǎ.

No one knows better where it [verb] [subject?] than he? it?carries?

For unde-l I'm assuming -l is some sort of postclitic object, I don't know Romanian, so forgive me if this is completely crazy.

And since strânge is some sort of verb, I kind of feel inclined to think of "strangle" and the Latin "strangulo". Could this mean strangle?

No one knows better where it strangles [subject] than he who it carries? (Going off Maleen's hunch that it mimics the common Romance construction)

Nimeni nu știe mai bine unde-l †strânge cizma† decât cel ce †o† poartǎ.

No one knows better where †something strangles† than he who carries †it†
So, what strangles whom?
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter even though Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström confirmed that Maleen is nearly correct, I still got a feeling that I might find the answer around the "door" things, so my next guess will be:
Nobody knows better where to find the keys than the one who carries it? or the one who keep it?
Billy James Brightraven
Billy James Brightraven I'm still dumbfounded at cizma. I can't think of any noun similar to it in any Romance language I know.

Can we get it in a sentence? In more Romanian. Maybe context will help.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Billy James Brightraven I was just about to post the same thing lol
WTF is cizma...???
Uģi Sanat
Uģi Sanat maybe it's similar to Hungarian ”csizma”?
Billy James Brightraven
Billy James Brightraven And this means? :D

I google imaged that. Lots of what appear to be boots.

So

Nobody knows better where the boot strangles than he who carries it?

I feel strangle is a bit wrong, yet not too off semantically in the context of the rest of the sentence.

So, maybe tightens? squeezes? Is uncomfortable?

Nobody knows better where the boot tightens than he who carries it?
Uģi Sanat
Uģi Sanat boots
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter cisma in Spanish means separation....
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström And Billy got it! Well done! It essentially means that you can't try to be in someone else's shoes. Well donzies, your turn!
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Should've been cizmă, my bad. Might've helped the googling...!
