Andy Ayres Huzzah :)! Ok, time for a new round.
Во очи сега гледај ме: не сум губитник, ти знај.
Не се предавам до крај: нема раѓање без паѓање.
Отвори душа признај ми: Што сме сега јас и ти,
Пола мое во тебе, а пола твое спие во мене.
Ајде, сега гушни ме; до небо дигни ме.

Dago Lesmes Suagua Although I love the tag, I cannot participate in this round because I know this song by heart and besides knowing the translation, I know what's next (pardon my orthographic mistakes and the lack of Cyrillic):
Crno i belo e se! Edna vistina i edna laga! I ako zaedno sme.... Jas viram srekja, ti viraš taga.
Crno i belo e se! Edna vistina i edna laga! I ako zaedno sme.... Jas viram srekja, ti viraš taga.
Andy Ayres I thought you and some others might, Dago ;). Words cannot express how much I love this song
Dago Lesmes Suagua I love it too!!! Specially the loud rock-girl scream in the climax of the song ^_^
Sarah Karoline Congratulations on your win!!! I liked your text, Christian!
И јас разбирам! Учам овој јазик и сакам оваа песна!
И јас разбирам! Учам овој јазик и сакам оваа песна!
Andy Ayres I'm glad you like it too, Sarah! One of my top 10 since 2000 for sure :). In retrospect, the number of people here who are either ESC fans or Balkan language enthusiasts is quite high :D. I was thinking of doing a Breton or Kyrgyz language round, but due to the deficiencies of online resources, it would probably require a third language (French and Russian respectively) to decode some words, and I wasn't sure if that was still kosher.
Sarah Karoline As you decided against Breton or Kyrgyz, that suggests Le Chat is no longer in control. Is that good or bad?! To we fans of the Balkans that's good news!
This song is one of my joint favourites too! Isn't it great that so many people love the Balkan (and other Slavic) languages (and Swedish.)

Andy Ayres Le Chat is indeed no longer in control, mostly because he is too busy with the Sanna-La Rivière feud on Titan, but his powers of temptation are such that I can't guarantee that there won't be a round in some obscure Papuan or Caucasian language some day ;). The love for Balkan languages definitely is delightful, and this particular language is one of my favourites. I'll have to attempt to learn it some day, once I actually have free time in the weekdays!
Sarah Karoline I fear there is a long battle ahead on Titan. In the meantime, I'll find some Papuan language resources. What is the meaning of "free time". I of it not know
Andy Ayres Good idea, Sarah ;)! Hopefully Titan will emerge relatively unscathed. Glad you're on board, Christian! It's not Serbian, but it's a language of a country located in that region :).
Christian James Meredith Во очи сега гледај ме: не сум губитник, ти знај.

Vo = some sort of spacial preposition with some extra overtones
Ochi = eyes?
gledaj = totally a verb
me = me (TENSAI DAROU!)
Ne = not (ditto last Japanese boast)
sum = am? Hmmm... Normally I'd expect "sam" from a Slavic language of this area.
ti = you
znaj = know
(something I've noticed thus far: verb conjugations seem odd)
se = is
pre-davam = something to do with giving
do = some preposition
kraj = blood? *shrugs*
nema = no one? nothing?
(new thought: wait, that is so not serbian orthography, that G-y sound)
bez = without
paganye = pagans?
Shto = what
mi = we? us?
jas i ti = you and I?
Moe vo tebe = some sort of "me (PREP) you"
a = but/and?
tvoe = your
vo mene = PREP me
do nebo = on the cloud?
Не се предавам до крај: нема раѓање без паѓање.

Christian James Meredith And now I am slowly falling into the dangerous world of Macedonian definite markers.
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL AND SYMMETRICAL.
IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL AND SYMMETRICAL.
Andy Ayres Why, thank you ;). And yes, this is a world that it is difficult to escape from. It lures you in with its siren song and then takes your soul! xD
Christian James Meredith Ах, вуупс, I just realised nema in "nema problem-" in other Slavic languages. Nema = no (as a noun modifier/quantifier)
Christian James Meredith Во очи сега гледај ме: не сум губитник, ти знај.
Не се предавам до крај: нема раѓање без паѓање.

"In eyes now, see (look at) me: I am not a loser, you know*.
Not to be betrayed* by an end: no (ragyanye) without pagans.
To open a soul to get to know us: What are we now, I and you,
Half of me to you, and half of you to me sleeps in me.
Come on, now (___) me; by a cloud (___) me."
*imperative usage. I was tempted to go with "you should know" but it seemed too long.
*this seems to be conjugated for the first person. "I'm not betrayed by an end"?

Andy Ayres Now we're cooking, we can begin with the notations - [] incorrect, {} - ballpark, () - correct, but problems with order, ... = missing words, Cyrillic- untranslated word
(In eyes now, look at me:) I am not a loser, you know.
(Not) [to be betrayed by an] end: {no} раѓање without [pagans.]
[To] open [a] soul [to get to know us]: What are we now, I and you,
Half of me ... [to] you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, (now) гушни me; [by a] {cloud} дигни me

Half of me ... [to] you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, (now) гушни me; [by a] {cloud} дигни me
Christian James Meredith Ok, I'm gonna get a little less literal for the first sentence:
"In my eyes now, look at me: I am not a loser, you know.
___________________ end: ________ without ______
etc etc
"Half of me sleeps* in you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, hold me now; in the sky ____ me."
*I don't know what word I'm missing since I see no word in the Mackadonsky
"In my eyes now, look at me: I am not a loser, you know.

etc etc
"Half of me sleeps* in you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, hold me now; in the sky ____ me."

Andy Ayres Looking good
In my eyes now, look at me - good, just needs reördering a little
I am not a loser, you know. - yes
Half of me sleeps in you, and half of you sleeps in me. - yes
Come on, {hold} me now - I'll take hold, but there's a better translation
([in] {the sky} ____ me). - You're getting warmer with the translation of небо. The word order needs looking at though.

Christian James Meredith "Look at me in my eyes now"
"Come on, hug me now-"?
"_____ me until heaven"?
"Come on, hug me now-"?
"_____ me until heaven"?
Елена Христова In FYROM, "se" means 'everything" and kraj means "end", "do nebo" - to the sky, "nema" there isn't, just like in Bulgarian

Christian James Meredith Thanks Elena, but just to check, if you're a Bulgarian or Macedonian speaker, don't give away the answer haha. It's a challenge, game, for non-speakers of Macedonian to figure out
Christian James Meredith OK, recap with some new attempted bits:
Во очи сега гледај ме: не сум губитник, ти знај.
Не се предавам до крај: нема раѓање без паѓање.
Отвори душа признај ми: Што сме сега јас и ти,

Andy Ayres You're getting really close now, Christian. Just a few words need finding and a little bit of reordering ^_^
Look at me in my eyes now: I am not a loser, you know.
(Not) [everything is betrayed] until the end: there is no [progress] without [pain].
{Opening} [my] soul [to understand] me: What are we now, you and I,

Christian James Meredith "There's no birth without fall"? (I decided to treat -nye as a suffix rather than -ye, finally got some hits on Wiktionary).
Christian James Meredith BTW, for my own understanding, do you know the infinitives of hug and lift?
Andy Ayres Ahà, yes, well, almost. -nye is indeed a specific type of suffix. There's no birth without fall{...}. There are no infinitives in modern Macedonian or Bulgarian (dat Sprachbund). The reference forms I usually see are гушна and дигна (or sometimes гушнам and дигнам.)
Andy Ayres By the way, I didn't see your other comment earlier! "An open soul knows me" is getting further away - I can tell you open, soul, and me are correct, but open is not an adjective here, and the verb is not knows. Although it's not written with a comma in the text I took, perhaps "Отвори душа, признај ми" shows the division of that clause more clearly.
"Until the end" is right, and you're getting closer with "I won't betray myself", but the best translation here is a verb that isn't reflexive in English.

Andy Ayres I'm afraid that's colder again, Wrik! Maybe we should go the whole hog and semi-colon this up - "Отвори душа; признај ми"
Jake Kissinger That word isn't showing up in any of the dictionaries I'm looking in, because it must be inflected, I presume.
Christian James Meredith Andy, isn't fall an acceptable gerund of itself though? E.g. "the fall of mankind"?
Christian James Meredith *Breaths in and out for last ditch efforts*
"Look at me in my eyes now: I am not a loser, you know.
I won't give up until the end: There's no birth without falling.
Open your soul and acknowledge me: What are we now, you and I,
Half of me sleeps in you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, hug me now; lift me up to heaven."

Andy Ayres Yes, but "no birth without fall" sounds very strange :p. You're very, very close now. Only problem is признај has many meanings, but none of the ones suggested so far are correct. One word to go!
"Look at me in my eyes now: I am not a loser, you know.
I won't give up until the end: There's no birth without falling.
Open your soul and [acknowledge ..] me: What are we now, you and I,
Half of me sleeps in you, and half of you sleeps in me.

Open your soul and [acknowledge ..] me: What are we now, you and I,

Andy Ayres No. A little clue: the correct translation would be two words, rather than one. ми is an indirect object
Christian James Meredith "Look at me in my eyes now: I am not a loser, you know.
I won't give up until the end: There's no birth without falling.
Open your soul and show to me: What are we now, you and I,
Half of me sleeps in you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, hug me now; lift me up to heaven."
?
I won't give up until the end: There's no birth without falling.
Open your soul and show to me: What are we now, you and I,
Half of me sleeps in you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, hug me now; lift me up to heaven."
?
Andy Ayres It is "to me", but not "show." Just one word needs changing to take the round! A second little clue: Serbo-Croatian "признати" is a cognate, and one of its meanings is the correct meaning in this song ^_^
Andy Ayres Aye, Wrik :)! I would say "admit to me", but "confess to me" is close enough. If you can put that into a complete verse, you take the round via stjalcuri!
Wrik Chatterjee Look at me in my eyes now: I am not a loser, you know.
I won't give up until the end: There's no birth without falling.
Open your soul and confess to me: What are we now, you and I,
Half of me sleeps in you, and half of you sleeps in me.
Come on, hug me now; lift me up to heaven.
Normally I'd feel at least a little bad, but CJM's already won too much.

Wrik Chatterjee So I want to do a round in a Central Solomons language, but if y'all want it easy I could just as easily do a round in Wiki Romanized Bengali. Any preferences?
