Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Yeah, thats the problem, I am stuck at my knowledge limit.
Okay, just an Indonesian/Malaysian one, back few hundred years:

Cahari olehmu akan sahabat,
yang boleh dijadikan obat.
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Kevin Long: Guten nacht und auf wiedersehen
Kevin Long
Kevin Long Vincensiu Denis, où hatibez-vous?
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter 750 km Nordest d toi :)
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo I am also going to bed, you guys have fun with a line from a poem from around 1800
Kevin Long
Kevin Long Oh, that's quite a distance :P Alright bed for me
Guten nacht, everyone :D
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter That's too easy for me Arief...
I'll give it a miss and let the others work on it :P
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Gud nite to those who are going to bed :)
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Vincensiu Denis, okay, you be the judge and guide then :)

Selamat malam, everyone!
Maleen Schlüter
Maleen Schlüter good night! guessing based on arabic, could sahabat be 'friend(s)'?
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter yup you are right Maleen Schlüter
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo I remembered exactly that, and let's bring back our friends: Hesham Swehli, Fahd Mir Jan, Chiara Maggi
Billy James Brightraven
Billy James Brightraven Sorry, guys, I was out with the dog :D but nice working. Yes, it's from a fiction. This one to be more exact.

Fahd Mir Jan
Fahd Mir Jan What are we guessing?
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter I'll repeat the question:

Cahari olehmu akan sahabat,
yang boleh dijadikan obat.
Fahd Mir Jan
Fahd Mir Jan cahari with you will be a friend, like a medicine/drug can be.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Yeah, you are getting there Fahd Mir Jan
I'm not quite sure, but that sentence might be from old Malay language, so the grammar is a bit funny.
In modern Indonesian, "akan" can be translated into "will", but not the case in this phrase.
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Damn. I've seen Cahari before but forgotten it. Could it be something like "being with you as a friend becomes like a drug"? Problem is that I'm completely ignoring yang there.
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Which is a relative pronoun at least in Indonesian.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter cahari is an ancient form of cari
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Christian James Meredith Being like a drug is pretty acceptable although it doesn't really hit the spot, but the first phrase is still incorrect
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Searching for friends with you is what may be made medicine. < thats still rather literal tho.
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Unless its "searching for a friendly gift for you is what becomes medicine"? (EDIT: got rid of the reduplication now that I'm not on the phone)
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Unless something else there has a double meaning as well in which case Indonesian has thoroughly beaten me.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter searching for a gift for a friendly gift for you is what becomes medicine... that's very very close, you just need to change the tense into a more imperative structure :)
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Or in this case middle malay or whatever :P
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Search for a gift for friends; that is what can be made into medicine?
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter OK, can you see any "gift" there in the original sentence?
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith "oleh".
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter gift = oleh-oleh, oleh has got different meaning
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Ah ok. Well "Search for friends, that is what can be made into medicine" then.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter I'll let you go with it then,
the translation should be:
Search (Look upon )you for a friend that can be a medicine
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Ah, OK, that makes more sense but the wording is very exotic for me :P
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Cari/ cahari = search/look
olehmu = by you/ upon you
akan = of
sahabat = friend
yang = which
boleh= can/possible
dijadikan = to be made
obat = medicine

I also found the words very exotic as well :p
and I am kinda a native speaker :P
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Haha, well I guess it is oldish language so I guess it's not surprising it's written poetically. Well I guess it's your turn since you technically solved it :D (and since I haven't got anything to suggest myself)
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter hmmm.... alright then...
I would like to post another Indonesian, but I guess it will be better if I bring it back to Europe...
let me think
