Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Here comes the round:
sadegi ghabl az pichidegi nist, bad az an ast
:D
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Ich flieger mit Fliegen, die zusammenn mit anderen Fliegen nach Florida fliegen, aber die erst die Stadt herumfliegen.
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo (sorry, I must go home now, I am still at my 2nd office past curfew -- not a good thing for me, see you all in about 11 hours)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Tjá / Bye for now :)
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner bye! :) Ve Shalom!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner Farsi! I love Farsi!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner but iam exhausted now, i need a little rest... and i work in 20 min
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I've done some work, but not much, so I should do some too.
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua So we're here now?
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner yes!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner sadegi ghabl az pichidegi nist, bad az an ast
that's the sentence
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua Great!... Is it Farsi?
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner yes! But Arief is sleeping and I have no idea what for example "ch" means. How should it be pronounced.. is it like in spanish? or in German? or completely different.. :(
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström That's probably Farsi, yeah. It looks really oddly romanised, though! :P
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner sadegi = simplicity, nist =is not
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I return!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner I am trying a lot of different combinations in the dictionary..
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner are that large or short vowels? what is gh, ch...grrr
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua We've all returned, yay!

But going back to the sentence...... Why didn't Arief post in the original script?!?!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner bad = may ... be (or wind, swelling)
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner Dago Lesmes No idea! It would have been much easier!
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström How sneaky...! I love that!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner An means shit????
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Isn't there a Latin script to Farsi converter somewhere? :)
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner the problem is, that in every language they write it differently. what in German would be "u" in english is "oo" and in french "ou"...
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner the dictionary says an = shit!!!
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Okay, "ch" is /tʃ/ ("tsch" in German) and "gh" is /ɣ/ (a voiced German a"ch"). This happens to be ASCII Internet romanisation.
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline True. Hm...
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner ان shit
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner i've tried the word with "tsch", but no result
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua Simplicity [ghabl] [az] [pichidegi] isn't, maybe? [az] [an] [ast]
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner آن the former, that! large AAA
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner ok, no shit
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner az = of (and many others)
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner nist = is not
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström In that construction, "than". "ast" means "it is". :P
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner است just found it
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner they say: we should better: است
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner az = than?
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Ah! This is a comparative clause!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner oh my...
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner sadegi ghabl az pichidegi nist, bad az an ast
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner What is "than"? an or az?
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner is it "baad" or "bad"?
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner bad= was, evil, insult, badly
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner baad = may....be
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline az - from / to / of
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua Maria... Technically there's no need for a 'than'.

It could be like.... "Simplicity is not good for you, persistence is better."

It's still comparative, but there's no -than- in there :p
Дайте Нефть Из Баку
Дайте Нефть Из Баку https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_transliteration
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner Simplicity [ghabl] from/to/of (pichidegi] is not, evil(?) from/to/of former/than it is good/ we should better ????
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I just found that too :)
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner No, I think dago gave only an example
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua Guys guys guys! I had completely forgotten about the existence of the "Great Language Game", and now I'm playing again... I feel SO ALIVE :D

Going back to our sentence, I think Maria's in the correct path.

And no Sarah... It wasn't a translation. If it is the correct translation, though, it would just be a matter of luck and I'd be LOLing all day long
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström "Simplicity isn't better than complexity, it is worse."

Idiomatically put.

"Ghabl az" and "bad az" mean before and after respectively.
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I was going to say that could possibly have been the shortest game! haha
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner ok... it was the shortest game. I guess Victor speaks Farsi?
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Nah, we don't know it's right yet! ^^
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline It probably is!
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner Yes. very likely. Arief will come back in a "few" hours. So long...
Maria Weidner
Maria Weidner Oh please, no ställe again!! :(
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline And in the meantime...!
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline ...in the meantime translate our stellar translation into Farsi or Hebrew...
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua Wait. Why don't you answer this question for me?

Why is the game called... Språkspelet's/Sprogspelet's/*Málspíl's ?
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I added "Málspílið" as the Icelandic version of "Språkspelet" and "Sprogspelet". They mean "the language game".
The game was named in honour of Malin who created it.
Dago Lesmes Suagua
Dago Lesmes Suagua Oh, I see. And why did you choose Icelandic, Norwegian (or Swedish?) and ("Sprogspelet" is in what language?) to name the game?
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Malin named it "Språkspelet", which means "The Language Game" in Swedish. :) (The Norwegian version'd be "Språkspillet ~ Språkespillet ~ Språgspillet")

I then modified it to "Sprogspelet", a mix of Danish and Swedish to make sure everyone could write it. :p

In analogy with the remaining Nordic languages, we've now got Icelandic!
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I added the Icelandic title as I'm learning Icelandic - a language less studied! (Technical faults. Took ages to answer!)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Shame I can't edit the omitted "ið" on the title...

Victor Malin Shouldn't or couldn't the title be multi-Nordic? :) Give Norway (perhaps even Finland and the Faroes!) some advertising.
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo I am back!!!

And the winner is...

*drumroll*

<null>
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Seems like Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström came very very close to the solution (correct keywords: simplicity, complexity, isn't, than, it's)
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo But it's not about one being better than the other -- what you said about the literal meaning of "* az" should be used :)
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo I guess it's called........... Nära skjuter ingen hare! :D
(see http://sprogspelet.arwi.im/history/round/?id=83)
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Simplicity isn't before complexity, it's after. (Things don't start off simple and get complex, they get polished down and then become simple/neat?)
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Dago Lesmes, Språkspelet History 101, Chapter: Name

Malin Elisabeth Nilsson gave two alternatives of the name:
"I have decided to give this game a name :) Hereafter it´s called "Språkspelet" (the game of languages). =) If språk is too hard, try "sprog" instead.[...]"
(http://sprogspelet.arwi.im/history/round/?id=30#30 → round 30 post 30, great number for a great moment!)

Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström then pushed forward the "sprog" alternative: http://sprogspelet.arwi.im/history/round/?id=46#25
and thanks, it really helped when writing the codes for our website!

And The first time we have the two orthographies side by side was Christian James Meredith's next round: http://sprogspelet.arwi.im/history/round/?id=47
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Yeah! Christian James Meredith wins!

The original phrase is "Simplicity does not precede complexity, but follows it."

I guess I should stop quoting from EoP eh? :P
Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith Yay! Ninja'd ;-)

BTW, I think bad az is best romanised as ba'd az
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Please forgive my lack of romanization knowledge :P
(and more forgive my lack of original script)

Christian James Meredith
Christian James Meredith I prefer romanisation since I forget how to read Arabic :P
