Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Well, let's try this one out, and let's hope I'm not overwhelming myself ^^

Språkspelet ROUND N° 181:

Fau m'leimi Füchá Chao,
ka Ng'néchen, kam Ng'némapun,
allkütuñmamuiñ iñ ngillatunmauken.

Nakkintuñmupaiñ, f'renemutuiñ,
ütr'fmulaiaiñ Füchá Chao,
kutranduamyeñmutuaiñ.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Dios mio...
Mapudungun??
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia YES!
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Or Mapuzüngun, or Mapudungún, or Mapuzungún ^^ or Mapuche : P
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Füchá = old/ancient
Füchá Chao = ancestor.
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Yes, but not only. Keep going : )
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Btw, wich is your source? It might help me to know it to give you tips : )
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter One of them:

http://books.google.com.au/books?id=anWB7BTpWrsC&pg=PA71&lpg=PA71&dq=F%C3%BCch%C3%A1&source=bl&ots=YYi-71jhXM&sig=Qz2KHqrGvGQJyRzCiDuBNCqq30o&hl=en&sa=X&ei=gunfUs6_MImslQWBioCYCg&ved=0CDEQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=chao&f=false
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia OK (Y)
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter The other one:

http://books.google.com.au/books?id=eOxWy1t_Eq8C&pg=PA14&lpg=PA14&dq=F%C3%BCch%C3%A1&source=bl&ots=xce259eM6i&sig=ShNbCOIUFYVE3TpHgfi1fsw7xJk&hl=en&sa=X&ei=4e3fUr-KOMa1kgWp6IHQDA&ved=0CC0Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=F%C3%BCch%C3%A1&f=false
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Now I see... well, it's more related to what you then wrote, "Füchá Chao = ancestor" than to what you first wrote "Füchá = old/ancient".

I'll let you guys go on for a little while while I do some chores : )
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I'm still looking through dictionaries.... :)
Дайте Нефть Из Баку
Дайте Нефть Из Баку Iñ = imperative desinence?
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Possible success. 1st sentence: Here - Great Father,
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Дайтe yup, pretty much. I'll come back to it though.

Sarah Pretty close! Those words are all in that sentence : ) Great Father is the translation : )
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Version 2 - Still incomplete. Sentence 1 and 2.

Here /2.sg verb/ Great Father.
[ka Ng'] of the [chen], [kam] of the earth/world
---
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Faring well, Sarah! : )
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Slowly! :)
Дайте Нефть Из Баку
Дайте Нефть Из Баку Chen = sky/heaven?
Mu = 1st person plural, accusative?
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Wow, Finally I got home from work, and still no input yet??
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I've been working out of the country for the day, but I stumbled across the following resources during my breaks. I thought I'd share them :)
1. The futatraw link at the bottom of this results page has a good grammar [https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Idioma+mapuche&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=cr&ei=o6DhUvyuLM_A7Aap2YGoCQ]
2. A Mapuche-Spanish glossary: http://www.interpatagonia.com/mapuche/diccionario.html

I haven't found any new words today.. . This language is complicated, Nicolás :)
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Wikipedia says:
iñ 'our (more than 2)'

Here /2.sg verb/ Great Father.
[ka Ng'] of the [chen], [kam] of the earth/world
[allkütuñmamuiñ] we [ngillatunmauken].

I am not sure yet whether this is the case for the words on second paragraph (most of it ends with "iñ").

[I am back!!! :D ]
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo ka=also
kam=or
Nguenechen=God (is it alternative spelling for Ng'néchen?)

Here /2.sg verb/ Great Father.
Also God ([Ng'] of the [chen]), or of the earth/world
[allkütuñmamuiñ] we [ngillatunmauken].

http://www.freelang.net/online/mapuche.php
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo A ha,

Ngenechen (Ngen-che): spirit or deity who governs human beings
Ngen-mapu: owners of the Earth

Here /2.sg verb/ Great Father.
Also God*, or Owners of the Earth
[allkütuñmamuiñ] we [ngillatunmauken].

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ngen
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ngenechen

* "Owners of Human Beings" is more literal
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Nicolás Straccia How well did we score?
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I'm still trying to make any advance on the words I found two days ago....."trying"!
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Sorry, I spent yesterday the first half of the day at the University, and the second half sitting in a train without internet. I'll come back to you very soon to give some tipps : ) You're doing pretty well : )

Now I'm about to open a can of surströmming, wish me luck! : D
Дайте Нефть Из Баку
Дайте Нефть Из Баку Leave your loved ones a message with the translation and the request to post it here, will you? In case the gastric lavage doesn't work, ye know.
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Nicolás I hope the Surströmming was more wonderful than it looks :)
In the meantime, I wonder how we've got on with Mapuche.. I fear our faring well has farið bort.
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia So, IÄm back now. The wurströmming was really not that bad at all. I could say I liked it even : )

Well, I'm gonna try to pun your notes together and give some ideas : )
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Both "ka Ng'néchen" and "kam Ng'némapun" are epithets of "Füchá Chao", so that might help restructure the person and number of those words, wich indeed have to do with "owning", but that's not the word we're looking for; it's more related to how the person who "owns" (though whats' meant is not exactly owning in a commercial sense) can be called. So, no "God".

iñ 'our (more than 2)' Correct!

"chen" is not a dictionary form, but it's not "heaven" nor "sky"

Here /2.sg verb/ Great Father.
[ka Ng'] of the [chen], [kam] of the earth/world
[allkütuñmamuiñ] our [ngillatunmauken].
Arief Wibowo
Arief Wibowo Congratulations, Nicolás Straccia, you survived surströmming!! :)
(I unfortunately don't get foods like that over here...)

Suggested next step for you: http://j.mp/1aQTaTK :D
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter mapudungun = speakers of earth
mapuche = people of earth
Could chen = che = people??

Nguillatun = pray (I presume it's a derivative from ngillatun)

Mamuilmalal= wooden fence (another form of mamuin)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Thank you for your review, Nicolás I've yet to have success in finding another word. My search continues!
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I am going to take a little guess...
"m'leimi = "is" or "is our", so the sentence becomes "here (is our) Great Father
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres An incredibly difficult language with scarce, and often contradictory, resources - and they call me evil :P

You are here, great Father,
God of the People, God* of the Earth,
Listen to our prayers.

Every resource I've found has referred to Ng'néchen as a god, but if not god, then perhaps "master" or "lord?"
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres "En otra parte escribe sobre Ng’néchen, el "Dios" mapuche:

"Esta entidad, ..., toma conocimiento de todo lo que sucede por intermedio de las exhalaciones que despiden los seres y las cosas: aromas, miasmas, vapores, humo, etcétera que, llevadas por el viento se expanden por la atmósfera.""
- from the book Ciencia Secreta de los Mapuche :)
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline I can find "ng" as a prefix for nouns related to people's titles or their jobs, but the root and suffix of these words isn't as in the text. Luckily you've found it now, so I can stop looking! haha
Dr Evil has a Twin! :)
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia "che" is, indeed "people". This is one of the mapuche words that got into the argentinian Spanish, afaik predominantly in Rioplatense (wich one geographical half of the country speaks, and more than one half of the population, though it's clearly not the only variety spoken in Argentina). We use it, mostly, as a vocative particle before adressing somebody. Through the usage of this particle in nomal speech in other countries where it wasn't used (mainly through absence of Mapuche) is that Ernesto Guevara got his moniker ^^

EDIT: che = person, people
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia I''ll come back to you soon with the rest : )

Arief I was going to buy a durian last week, but didn't have the time. I will next week : )
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline "allkütuñ" is possibly "listen" [Not knowing where affixes start and end is problematic :) ]
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Nicolás te estamos esperando :p
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström
Victor Wåhlstrand Skärström Yes, much esperando!
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres With the grammar and several dictionaries, I have taken the following stab. It may be a horribly bad translation, because I've chosen words that MAY be linked to the words here but written in a slightly different orthography - or they could be unconnected words despite the similarity. Either way, let's see if we can get this moving a bit.

You are here, great Father,
Lord of the People, Lord of the Earth,
Listen to our prayers.

Look down on us, do us favours
Don't throw us away (don't abandon/reject us?), Great Father
Have compassion on us.
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline It looks good to me, a non-speaker of Mapuche :). What do you think, Nicolás. Te aspettiamo :) Has Andy helped us out or completed the game?
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Sorry! This was not a good day for internet!
Andy has ALMOST got it. Well done! : ) One phrase needs yet to be more precise. Sarah was also right with listen=allkütun

You are here, great Father,
Lord of the People, Lord of the Earth,
Listen to our prayers.

Look down on us, {do us favours}
Don't reject us, Great Father
Have compassion on us.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres You are here, great Father,
Lord of the People, Lord of the Earth,
Listen to our prayers.

Look down on us, favour us (?)/protect us(?)
Don't reject us, Great Father
Have compassion on us.
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia It's one of those! Give the right option, and it's yours! : )
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres You are here, great Father,
Lord of the People, Lord of the Earth,
Listen to our prayers.

Look down on us, favour us
Don't reject us, Great Father
Have compassion on us.
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia YES!
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Andy wins! : )
Nicolás Straccia
Nicolás Straccia Thank you for bearing with me. I hope that the next time I get to host a round I have better connectivity! : )
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Andy Ayres Felicitaciones!!
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Nicolás you did OK
at least you came back to us :D
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Andy:You should have two cards. One for winning this round and another for making it look easy!
Nicolás Computer's are made for breaking. Nema problema!
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Yay! I was worried my days of being pored over dictionaries and grammars would have come to nought by someone stjälcurying with protect instead of favour :p :D
Sarah Karoline
Sarah Karoline Stjälcuriing at the last minute would be really mean/unfair. I couldn't do that.
I only got about four words in the entire round.
