Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Here we go-Round 206, which is both the smallest positive number in English to use all the vowels only once and the number of bones in the human body. Below is a translation I made of two lines from the theme song of one of my favorite TV shows into a language with one of its more phonemic transcription systems, both because I'm a nice guy and because I can't yet write in this language's writing system. After somebody gets these lines, bonus points to whoever can guess which show this comes from.

Lokjôn bhabe je amar matha kharap, karôn ami shobshomaê chintaê pori. / Jôdi tumi monojôg dite, tumiô chintaê porte.

A couple of these phrases are idiomatic, but I think you can figure them out fairly easily.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Jake since you already know what this means, I give you partial moderating powers :P .
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Hmmmm the chintae reminded me to Indonesian,
could it be another Sanskrit derivative language?
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Definitely looks Indic... perhaps Bengali?
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Now for some tagging: Andy Arief Anna Christian Zev Billy Maria Kevin Sarah Dago Vincensiu Victor Nicolás Matteo Helene and whoever else I forgot
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Agreed! must be Bangla!
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Damn, you guys are good.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter matha kharap = মাথা খারাপ = becoming bad/annoyed/crazy
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Good work; indeed, that is one of the idiomatic phrases.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres লোকজন ভাবে যে আমার মাথা খারাপ - people think I'm going crazy?
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Andy Ayres Tantalizingly close, but you got the verb tense wrong.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres People will think? (ভাববে?)
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Now you're getting colder; it isn't future tense. You're making this more complicated than it needs to be.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Darn... the only verbal forms of bhaba that I can find in this grammar that match bhabe are simple present and (with an extra b) future :/

Moving on,

কারণ - because
আমি - I
চিনতে - to recognise
পরি - I wear
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee It isn't "I wear," but that's a homophone. "Recognize" is close, but you're not quite there.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee "Because" is right :) .
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee Also it is simple present.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Aha, so is the problem with the other verb? "People think I'm crazy/mad" rather than "going crazy?" :)
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee There you go.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres I found this:

পরি1 [ pari1 ] denoting: thoroughness, expen siveness, excessiveness, especiality, opposition, decrial etc.

And found related to চিনতে the nominal form চিন্তা, meaning thought - so could the former mean "think too much" or something akin to it?

Second line:
If you paid attention, you'd also ____. For পড়তে I found read, study and fall down, but these all sound strange in the context?
Jake Kissinger
Jake Kissinger "If you paid attention" is spot on! You've found some literal translations for porte; the missing part here is idiomatic.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee And the form of the word does mean one of those meanings you found literally.
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee And "think too much" is getting very, very close.
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres People think I'm crazy because I _____ "think too much" - if you paid attention, you'd "think too much" too?

For think too much, could they mean brood, worry, speculate, dwell on or something similar?

Can't for the life of me find shobshomaê :/ - could it be a compound word?
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee The latter is in fact a compound word. And one of those meanings you found for "think too much" is spot on. Once you get this, most of the rest will fall into place. Good work!
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Aha! looking for the words separately, I found "all" + "time." :). Judging by the context of the rest of the text, let's try:

"People think I'm crazy, because I always worry; if you paid attention, you would worry too."
Wrik Chatterjee
Wrik Chatterjee অভিনন্দন, Andy! That's the game! Any guesses as to which theme song it is :P ?
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres Thank you! Huzzah :D. This was an interesting challenge - first time I've tackled an Indic language on SpSp :). No clue with regards to the TV show - unfortunately, I haven't had much time to get into much tv recently!
Andy Ayres
Andy Ayres When I started translating, I thought it was going to be an excerpt from Black Sabbath's Paranoid! xD
