Wrik Chatterjee Did I get either the right family or the right region? Btw, I'm getting mojibake for some of this.
Billy James Brightraven Weeeeird, I'm not seeing the delta after ху-.
Anyone else experiencing font failure?
Anyone else experiencing font failure?
Ed Blankenship Correct family. And it's a language that doesn't have a huge number of speakers so the orthography is a bit... meh. I'll scan the page and put it up
Ed Blankenship And I should correct that. Wrik - You're in the same family as Ossetian, not Bashkir.
And good lord no... this isn't Tajik

I performed CSI analytics on your scanned pic, discovered you scan it from a book called "SHUGHNI PRACTICE"

Ed Blankenship Oh... my bad - The next page (which you could see through to) says "Shughni Practice Book" hahahaha my bad!
Arief Wibowo Now I shall show myself to the exit door...
My life is still ställified, I will be back once my problems are resolved, I promise!
Have a nice round!

Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Mon Dieu! I woke up to find another cryptic round :p
Anyway I got exam today, so good luck to all the players
Arief, u literally can work for CSI.

Arief Wibowo Vincensiu Dionisiu, I can neither confirm nor deny that I am neither working nor not working for CSI...
And of course, good luck for your exam!

Ed Blankenship If you all think this might be a bit too hard/impossible, just let me know and I'll pick something else.
Jake Kissinger It appears we have a language that is not listed on Omniglot! I'm pretty sure we've had some like that before, but it's not too common.
Jake Kissinger Is that letter that looks like a lowercase Delta representing the voiced interdental, like Eth in Icelandic? I'm thinking that's the only extra letter they'd need in addition to the Tajik alphabet; what is it's capital form? I guess this isn't hugely helpful; I'm just curious.
Arief Wibowo Sarah Karoline, through the usual CSI zoom in and enhance procedure

That is my translation of Shrugni!
That is my translation of Shrugni!
Jake Kissinger I'm about to take a whack at it. Isn't there a dictionary somewhere in these resources?
Brad Wilson The dictionaries provided are latin script (need to transcribe) and seem limited in entries
Jake Kissinger I could try to come up with a transcription based on the Latin alphabet the Wikipedia page gives.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Here are my issues:
1. The dictionary is listed in Latin alphabet
2. I cannot find a guide of phonology in Cyrillic (Cyrillic transcription)
3. The dictionary does not provide complete lexicon and not in a very systematic order.

Jake Kissinger It seems like in the Latin alphabet they're doubled to make the distinction. I really wish Wikipedia gave some of the sounds in IPA & not just in English equivalency, but there are some IPA charts in Eddie's resources; I don't remember any of them actually being paired up with either alphabet, though.
Jake Kissinger Wow! I hadn't really looked at it that closely; this is such an interesting mix of Latin and Greek characters in the Cyrillic alphabet! :-O
Ed Blankenship meth ≠ with Christian
Upon looking again, a couple of words in this poem don't even appear in my own Shughni dictionary let alone in the online resources. So, may its for the best to call this a miss and put up a new text.

Jake Kissinger That v isn't an izhitsa, is it? That'd be cool if it is, but why? What sound does it represent?
Christian James Meredith I can't even get the dictionary to work haha...

Jake Kissinger I think the main differences between Christian's transcription and mine are in those words Eddie says are wrong, though, except I also was wrong in using double-Es for every e.
Ed Blankenship That's cool Jake. Yours is pretty good. be careful with the word "meeth" and "meent" there's no reason for the /e/ to be long.
According to my book, Shughni long /e/ is marked as ē or ê. However, we are also well aware of inconsistent orthography in this case. (Thus making it more interesting)

Ed Blankenship Yeah but the Z is a different sound... But noticed there isn't a /v/. That's just a fault in the orthography. Just like the fact that /e/ (without a marking) doesn't appear in the alphabet but yet it appears plenty in the text and after the alphabet it says that ê is a long vowel.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter Chiara interested in playing this game again? We got some Iranian round
Wrik Chatterjee khudhoy="hunger?" Just going by possible Indo-Iranian cognates.
gharib=either "foreign" or "poor"
gharib=either "foreign" or "poor"
Ed Blankenship It is oblique/accusative, but it's also a genitive. I might have been thinking of it's use in a different line
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter No, the game hasn't died yet. It's just our attention have been shifted to Eurovision!

Jake Kissinger I'm pretty busy, too, finals & all. I keep getting distracted by the Internet, but I'm trying not to.
Jake Kissinger I'll take a wild guess, though: if Christian's right that khudhoy is lord, then maybe the last line is "O, Lord, kumbaya."
Arief Wibowo Lycka juang for your studies, Jake Kissinger, and umm... stjälcuri is prooobably not a good idea during finals

Arief Wibowo Billy James Brightraven, do you reckon he suffer from Post Eurovision Depression like us? CFC???
Jake Kissinger I'll work on this more tomorrow, but I just tried to find some of the words in Eddie's dictionaries & couldn't. I just tried a few, though; I'll give it a proper go in the morning. Also, heads up, the dictionaries seem to use a different orthography than either the one in the original document or the one we came up with based on Wikipedia with all the digraphs. It has a bunch of diacritics instead of digraphs (I'm pretty sure that у with a ° corresponds to u with a °, BTW) & the Greek letters are still in. Since it's such a small language & since the Soviet Union fell so recently, I guess it's not surprising that they haven't sorted out all their orthography issues yet; I'm guessing that's the case since nothing seems to agree.
Arief Wibowo This round has ukabikierued and surpassed Mikkel Ramzuiv Pittmann Wilson's Japanese round
Ed Blankenship Good morning. I'm sorry I've been absent for a few days. I've been moving.

Jake Kissinger Oh, I finished finals on Friday; I am not disturbed. I meant to work on this more today, but I was busy. I did some more dictionary plugging & chugging, but to no avail.
Jake Kissinger Oh, I did *maybe* find something. Is "meθ" a form of "miθ," or something like that. I didn't see it in the dictionary, but there was a vowel change from "niθ" to "nêθ."
Arief Wibowo Jake Kissinger did more from me and I unfortunately can't Sprogspelet much during my travel in Indonesia...
Дайте Нефть Из Баку Sorry, seems like some posts didn't show up at all on my page. I couldn't see Eddie's either.
Arief Wibowo The Sprogspelet website has encountered some bugs due to Facebook API token issue!

Ed Blankenship Unfortunately, this week is a mess for me (packing, graduation on Thursday, etc.)- while not perfect, I think Vincensiu has come the closest anyone is going to come. So, I shall dub thee "Winner of one of the longest rounds of Språkspelet"!!! The next round is yours (and you may want to start a new thread).
Ed Blankenship I think next week (after I've finished moving, for now... *sighs*) I'll put up a new thread, and interested parties (let me know who you are) can take a stab at working through some Shughni and getting a perfect translation from this text.
Marius Vincenzii Dennischter First of all, let me thank Eddie who has appointed me as the winner even though my translation is far for complete. Secondly, I would like to thank everyone who has supported, nominated and congratulate me.
Thirdly, I would like to thank those who have contributed some words to this current round and help me to semi-complete this round and Lastly, I would like to thank all the participants who have been patiently waiting for this round to finish.
