Thatcher Ó Donnabháin First sentence correct, second sentence correct (of course, pjuri you need), third sentence you have the right idea but it's much simpler than that, fourth right except for crèidi, fifth pretty correct except for the words which you didn't get. Really good! What language do you think it is?

I've found one Italian dialect dictionary online, but it doesn't contain the missing words.

Andy Ayres I usually stay out of Romance rounds, but know nothing about Istriot, so let's give it a try before bed :D.

May be well off, but I'm guessing pjuri comes from the same root as French pleurer, cry (but in this case Latin plorare > plurare (o > u vowel change) > pljurare > pjurare, pjuri 2nd person singular.

Baroufa > Italian baruffa (fight, tiff)?

Crèidi 2nd person singular of crèidare (which could be from Latin cridare, c.f. Italian gridare?) scream?

Dòuti (all, masculine plural cf. tutti? My finding of the International declaration of human rights would back this up: Dòuti i omi naso lèibari e cunpagni in dignità e diriti... All men are born free and equal in dignity and rights...)

Putting them all together:

Andy Ayres It seems to be a loose translation indeed then, I'm afraid, as pretty much every link I can find phrases dòuto, dòuti as being all :/. Taking a different tack:

Completely falls in love with you...

Hmm. As I say, I've kept out of many a round because of my knowledge of a language family, but if I can't get involved in a round of a Romance language I know nothing of...

Thatcher Ó Donnabháin So, I'm going to again recommend to look in the surrounding languages (or rather one big one) and look for cognates. You may well be right but I am not quite sure, since it could be either that or something else, so...

Thatcher Ó Donnabháin I thought it would be fun trying out Istriot. Next time: Kajkavian!

Andy Ayres Creidi from crīdāre wasn't too much of a jump - what helped was reading some texts quickly in the language and noticing patterns like Latin long i to Istriot ei :D. I've had to resist the urge to practice the Germanic etymology game for some of the past few rounds, so it was nice to have a language where I could use it with Latin that didn't break the five minute rule.
